Areview of a situation or system is its formal examination by people in authority. This is usually done in order to see whether it can be improved or corrected.

e.g. The president ordered areview of US economic aid to Jordan...

review, criticism

这两个词的共同意思是“评论”。其区别是：

review指对内容作简略介绍,指出其优劣,而后附加评论者的批评或个人意见; criticism特指根据深入研究及统一标准对书籍、音乐、电影等所写的评论性文章。例如:

I read a good criticism of South Pacific.我读了一篇有关南太平洋的好文章。

magazine，journal，periodical，publication，newspaper，review，press

这些名词均有“出版物或定期刊物”之意。

magazine指刊登各种文章、小说、诗歌、评论的杂志。

journal本义为“日报”，现在可指定期发生的周刊、月刊、季刊等或指学术团体出版的刊物、杂志或学报。

periodical通常指除日报以外的定期出版刊物。

publication指出版物，发行物。

newspaper一般指每日出版的报纸。

review多指登载评论性文章或讨论重大事件的文章的刊物。

press系报刊总称，也指报界或报业。
